Scarlett Raine
PhD Candidate and Mechatronic Engineer Queensland University of Technology and CSIRO's Data61 I am a final stage PhD student at QUT and CSIRO in Brisbane, Australia. I am passionate about innovative design and application of artificial intelligence, deep learning and computer vision for problems in environmental and marine conservation. My PhD focuses on development of weakly supervised approaches for segmentation of underwater imagery. Monitoring coral reefs and seagrass meadows with robotic platforms generates large quantities of imagery which must be analysed. My research automates the analysis using deep learning, and aims to reduce the manual data labelling effort by ecologists by leveraging weakly supervised approaches. My expertise is in design of novel deep learning algorithms for highly complex and specialized tasks which often have constrained labelled data availability. These challenging, domain-specific applications often have unique characteristics which prevent use of typical mainstream algorithms. |
